This wonderful image of Sarah features a elegant pelisse of green cloth trimmed with ermine tails. The dress is in the simple empire style with a lace ruff, a style growing less fashionable in Europe where waists are dropping and more frills appear on gowns. In contrast to the rather simple gown, the coat and turban are exotic and indicate wealth. The turban appears to be fashioned from a silk scarf woven in multiple colors. The jewels are coral, which along with turquoise, was popular for day jewelry during the Regency.
