| This portrait shows the wide, transparent sleeves that became common in the late 1820s and 1830s. Compare to the sleeves of the crepe dress of the February 29th, 1828 issue of Petit Courrier des Dames. Although only a little of the lady's waist is seen, it is likely that Mlle. Signoigne is wearing a tight corset, given the ratio of waist to shoulders. The X shape for women with dresses ballooning out at shoulders and hem is typical of the 1830s fashion. |
