Turbans and Turban-like Headdresses, 1811-1830

Moorish Turban from March 1812 Issue of La Belle Assemblée

The journal describes this turban as a "Moorish turban of white satin and coloured crape twisted in the front, the same colour as the gown, and fastened on the crown with a ruby ornament to correspond with the broaches."

La Belle Assemblée March 1818

This magnificent turban features three pearl tassels, flowers, and ropes of pearls for trim.

Several heavy ostrich plumes ornament this turban.

French Fashion Plate dated 1818

I can't tell if the spirals coming down from the head are tendrils of hair or some sort of trim hanging from the turban.

The Repository of Arts, Literature, Commerce, Manufactures, Fashion, and Politics

(more commonly called Ackermann's Repository)

1823

This gold and scarlet turban has some thick, short plumes on it. The proportions make it rather silly looking to my modern eye!
